We’ve been incredibly busy this past year, and it’s certainly been a year like no other! Have a look at some of the work we’ve been doing to serve youth and families in our community. Some key highlights include being there for our community each and every one of the 6,307 times they needed us during this past year of dealing with Covid. Let us know if you have any questions because we LOVE talking about the amazing stuff we’re doing with and for our community. If you’ve ever wondered what your youth centre actually does, this will give you a pretty good idea. Thank you all for you support, we couldn’t do all this without you! The outbreak of COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the activities and work of the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre. The changes mean that we have not had usual work flow, programming or activities. While the youth have not been at the centre for over 2 weeks, employees continued to plan for the return of program. We have listened to directions from the Premier of Ontario to limit personal contact, and closed the youth centre as a place of non-essential work on Wednesday. We wanted to reduce risks to staff by adhering to social distancing recommendations from the province of Ontario. Sadly, we have also taken the further step of laying off, effective today, our dedicated and creative Program Coordinator Sara, and Youth Workers Ace, Lilli and Emily, so they can take full advantage of income replacement programs. We will welcome them back to their youth centre employment when we can safely reopen our doors. Our Managing Director, Jessie Cornford, will work from home, and will be answering email all and social media inquiries as well as preparing grant applications, building partnerships, and completing the many administrative duties necessary for a charitable organization. Please reach out to Jessie at director.mmyc@gmail.com if you have any questions in this very difficult and unprecedented time. We will continue to post programming and support information on social media. We are in this together, and hope to see you all safely on the other side of this pandemic.
