The Mississippi Mills Youth Centre is looking for committed and enthusiastic individuals to join our team for summer camp! This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs so all applicants must be aged 15-30.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre (MMYC) is to strengthen the emotional, social, mental, and physical health and wellness of youth aged 10-18, especially those who may be at risk due to their socio-economic environments, social and familial relationships, and school situations. We accomplish this by providing a safe, supervised environment where youth develop social and practical skills to become engaged and productive members of society. MMYC offers casual drop-in programs as well as structured programming, including fundraising and community partnership events, all at low or no cost to participants.

The Camp Counsellor, in conjunction with the Executive Director, Program Coordinator and Project Coordinator, is responsible for supporting facilitation and supervision of activities, field trips, work shops, community initiatives and special events during summer camp.

Accountability:

The Camp Counsellor position reports directly to the MMYC Executive Director and indirectly to the Program Coordinator and Project Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  1. Availability and flexibility to work evening and weekends.
  2. Knowledge of, or previous work or volunteer experience with youth aged 10-18 would be considered an asset.
  3. Clean and current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) report issued by Ontario Provincial Police, or eligibility and willingness to obtain same upon hiring
  4. Valid First Aid and CPR level C, or willingness and ability to obtain same upon hiring.

Duties:

  1. Working with Program Coordinator, Project Coordinator to facilitate activities during summer camp. Participate actively and enthusiastically in programs with the youth.
  2. Providing supervision to youth, pursuant to MMYC Policies and Procedures while ensuring a physically and emotionally safe and healthy environment.
  3. Provide feedback to the Program Coordinator and Project Coordinator in a timely manner about any issues or concerns with programs and/or camp participants and assist with conflict resolution amongst program participants.
  4. Model the values and mission of the centre in all interactions with youth, their families and the community, staff colleagues and engage with others in a professional and friendly manner.
  5. Ensure a safe and healthy environment for youth, staff and volunteers by adhering to policies, procedures and good common sense as well as confidentiality protocols.
  6. Supporting community engagement and fundraising initiative of the centre.
  7. Assisting in maintaining the youth centre in a clean and organized state, inside and outside.
  8. Assist youth in preparing and serving and serving nutritious snacks and meals while teaching and modelling kitchen safety and balance eating.
  9. Maintain accurate and current data of program participants and participate in program evaluation.
  10. Participate in full orientation and training schedule.

Working Conditions:

The Mississippi Mills Youth Centre Camp Counsellor role is a full-time position beginning on June 24th, 2024, and ending on August 30th, 2024, with varying hours. This position requires evening and weekend availability.
